Ivel Trip Report

News, Trip, Trip Reports
15 of us had a fantastic day on this river. Well actually Spelthorne Canoe Club asked if they could join us, so there were 7 of them and 8 from Nomads. We had a sunny day and some people got sunburned at the end of the day . We caught the water levels perfectly allowing us to have a lot of fun. We got on the water for 11am and finished at 3:30pm taking in a 1/2 hour lunch break. There will be another trip to the Ivel suitable for confident 1* paddlers on the 12th of November.

Symond’s Yat trip report

Trip, Trip Reports
High water levels at Symonds Yat last weekend, which meant that the rapids were slightly washed out and the water was a murky brown colour. Thanks to Steve S, Pav, Martin, Peter, Steve G and Ben for coming, with a guest appearance by Beth James. The weather held out and stayed dry. In the morning we introduced Steve G and Ben to moving water and after a few hours we stopped for lunch, as we'd had a few swims. CREAM TEAS all-round. After lunch we pushed Steve G and Ben a little harder. Well done Ben for nailing your first whitewater roll, it worked when you needed it and well done to Steve G for not giving up and getting back in your boat time after time after time. Good…

Middle Wye Trip Report

Middle Wye Trip Report

Trip, Trip Reports
On the last weekend in February, braving the low temperatures, three members and an ex-member of Nomads set off to mid Wales to run the middle section of the Wye from Builth Wells down to Glasbury, including the infamous 'Hell Hole' rapid at Erwood. Arriving late friday afternoon we went straight to the Hell Hole to inspect river conditions, before checking into the luxury River Cafe B&B at Glasbury, which was also our get out. The river level was just about perfect  (an inch over the bases of the bridge piers at Glasbury) high enough to make the Hell Hole a grade 3 rapid and cover the slabs the whole width of the river, but not spate levels, which make a dangerous river wide stopper. Satisfied with the prospects for…

Trip
Meet: Meet at the put in at 9.30am on Saturday. Finish: At the take out at about 3pm on Saturday. Level: The Ivel is a great river for both novice and more experienced paddlers alike. All weirs can easily be run or, if necessary, portaged. You will need to be able to paddle for at least three hours at an easy pace; white water experience is NOT required. Equipment: Please remember that we are still into winter and you need to bring appropriate clothing, tracksuits and highly absorbent wind-breakers are NOT suitable attire.
