NKC River Colne Big Paddle Clean Up 2025
Event Chair: Ian Walker
DETAILS:
As part of British Canoeing’s Clear Access Clear Waters ‘The Big Paddle Clean-up’ Campaign (running 24th May to 8th June 2025), Nomad Kayak Club will be paddling and cleaning up the River Colne in Rickmansworth on Sunday 15th June 2025.
On Sunday 15th June 2025 we will meet at the Nomad Club Facility at 10am, and when ready will launch onto the canal by Stockers Lock to paddle the much loved ‘Ricky Loop’. Our route will take us along the Grand Union Canal towards Batchworth where we access the River Colne under the Iron Bridge. We will then follow the River Colne downstream to Springwell Lock before returning along the canal to Stockers Lock and the egress for the Nomad Club Facility.
Along the way Club members, in Kayaks and Open Canoes and armed with gloves, litter pickers and sacks provided by British Canoeing ‘Clear Access Clear Waters' campaign, will scour the river and banks for every bit of rubbish they can find and not too big or dangerous to pick-up. A car will be stationed near Springwell lock and will transport the collected bags of rubbish to the Hertfordshire County Council Recycling Centre on Riverside Drive. On our last River Colne clean-up usual suspects retrieved from the River and banks included plastic water bottles, drink cans, fast-food packaging, dog poo in plastic bags, tyres, plastic sheeting & discarded fishing tackle.
